When I was about eight years-old, my dad bought me a DVD which recollected the life and career of Diego Maradona, highlighting his time at Napoli. My dad described him as one of the best, which sparked my curiosity in him.

Upon first viewing, I was hooked. I watched the DVD every single day after school — excessive and obsessive, to say the least.

While watching this DVD, I became fascinated by Maradona’s character, but I was even more fascinated and curious about the city and people of Napoli.

It was at that young age I knew that one day, I needed to visit Napoli.

Last summer, I finally got the chance to visit.

What a crazy city — bustling, busy, and alive.

Neapolitans are staunchly proud and passionate people, and their ways and beliefs translated into everything they did, including football.

This photo series attempts to capture how religion, football, and cultural identity intertwine with the Neapolitans.
